The trip I didn't want

ぼくは いえが すきだ。

I like being at home.

どようびは くじに おきる。いえで えいがを みて、おんがくを きく。

On Saturdays I get up at nine. I watch films at home and listen to music.

ぼくは りょこうが すきじゃない。りょこうは たいへんだ。

I don't like travelling. Trips are a hassle.

けど、ともだちの ユミは りょこうが すきだ。

But my friend Yumi loves them.

きんようびの ばん、ユミから でんわが くる。

On Friday evening Yumi calls.

ユミ

「あした、うみに いかない？ わたしの くるまで いく。」

"Want to go to the sea tomorrow? We'll take my car."

ぼく

「りょこうは たいへんだ。」

"Trips are a hassle."

ユミ

「うみは きれいだから。」

"The sea is beautiful, trust me."

どようびの ろくじ、ユミが くるまで ぼくの いえに くる。ぼくは ろくじに おきる。

At six on Saturday Yumi pulls up at my house. I'm up at six too.

ユミの くるまで うみに いく。

We drive to the sea in Yumi's car.

くるまの なかで、ぼくは ねる。

In the car, I sleep.

うみは きれいだ。ユミは およぐ。ぼくは うみを みる。

The sea is beautiful. Yumi swims. I just look at the sea.

ユミが いう。

Yumi says,

ユミ

「きて！」

"Come in!"

ぼくも およぐ。みずは つめたい！

I swim too. The water is cold!

それから、ユミと うみの みせで すしを たべる。すしは おいしい。

Then Yumi and I eat sushi at a shop by the sea. The sushi is good.

ごごは うみの まえで おんがくを きく。

In the afternoon we listen to music in front of the sea.

ばん、ユミの くるまで いえに かえる。

In the evening we drive home in Yumi's car.

くるまの なかで、ユミが きく。

In the car, Yumi asks,

ユミ

「りょこうは どうだった？」

"So how was the trip?"

ぼく

「たのしかった。」

"It was fun."

ユミ

「らいげつは やまに いかない？」

"Want to go to the mountains next month?"

ぼく

「うん、いく。」

"Yeah, I'll go."
