Spanish weather words: hace calor, hace frío, está nublado

Spanish describes the weather with nouns and three verbs you already know. Heat and cold go with hacer (hace calor), sun and wind go with hay (hay viento), and the state of the sky goes with estar (está nublado). The words here are the ones the course teaches.

Good to know

  • Temperature uses hacer: hace calor, hace frío, hace mucho calor.
  • Sun, wind and snow on the ground take hay: hay sol, hay viento, hay nieve. Hace sol is also common. Rain and snow falling are verbs: llueve, nieva.
  • A state of the sky takes estar: está nublado.
  • mucho goes before the noun: hace mucho frío, hay mucho viento.
